Beginning engineering graduates, from computer engineering college, usually work under the supervision of experienced engineers, seasoned graduates from computer engineering school.  As new engineers gain knowledge and experience, they are assigned more difficult projects (similar to engineering school) with greater independence to develop designs, solve problems, and make decisions.  Engineers may proceed to become technical specialists or to oversee an employee or team of engineers and technicians, at a plant or computer engineering school.  Some may eventually become engineering managers or enter other managerial or sales jobs.  In sales, an engineering background enables them to discuss a product's technical aspects and assist in product planning, installation, and use.

Overview
Computer engineers typically enter the occupation with a bachelor's computer engineering degree in an engineering specialty, from computer engineering school, but some basic research positions may require a graduate computer engineering degree.  Engineers offering their services directly to the public must be licensed, in addition to graduation from a computer engineering school.

A bachelor's computer engineering degree is required for almost all entry-level engineering jobs.  Most engineering programs taught in computer engineering college involve a concentration of study in an engineering specialty.  Computer engineering college programs also include courses in general engineering.  Most computer engineering college graduates pursue an engineering degree in electrical, electronics, mechanical, or civil engineering.  A design course, sometimes accompanied by a computer or laboratory class or both, is part of the curriculum in most computer engineering colleges.

Admissions requirements for undergraduate computer engineering colleges include a solid background in mathematics and science, with courses in English, social studies, and humanities.  Bachelor's computer engineering degree programs in engineering typically are designed to last 4 years in computer engineering college, but many students find that it takes between 4 and 5 years to complete their studies and attain their computer engineering degree.
