Accounting - Graduate Certificate

What does someone in this field do?
Accounting recruits, graduates of accounting schools, who have an accounting degree, usually excel by taking on more duties (e.g. bookkeeping, accounts payable and receivable) for increased pay or by laterally or upwardly moving to a closely related occupation.  Most companies fill office support supervisory and managerial positions by promoting employees who have graduated from accounting schools, internally, so clerks who continuously attend accounting college or accounting training, gain experience and improve their advancement opportunities.  With appropriate experience and an accounting degree attained from an accounting college, some accounting clerks may become accountants or auditors.
Overview

Accounting employers expect accounting college recruits to have at least an accounting degree or to have completed some accounting programs, from an accredited accounting college, and to also have relevant work experience. Accounting recruits should also have good communication skills and be detail-oriented.  Additionally, accounting associate of science degree candidates should have a strong aptitude for numbers.

Attaining accounting college credits has become increasingly important.  Associate of science accounting degrees resulting in an associate degree in business or accounting is required for most positions.  Employers prefer workers who can use computers; knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software is vital.  Accounting clerks, often receive on-the-job training, fundamental training in addition to an accounting college education.

Accounting recruits from accounting schools, specifically recordkeeping individuals for a company, may find it valuable to become certified. To achieve certification, recruits must have 2 years minimum of bookkeeping experience, successfully complete a four-part examination, and follow a code of ethics. Several accounting schools and associate of science accounting programs offer a preparatory course for certification; some offer accounting programs and advanced accounting degrees or certifications online.
