To achieve certification, recruits must have 2 years minimum of bookkeeping experience, successfully complete a four-part examination, and follow a code of ethics. Several accounting schools and associate of science accounting programs offer a preparatory course for certification; some offer accounting programs and advanced accounting degrees or certifications online.
